How To Make A Claim

If you have experienced a loss and are wondering if you should make an insurance claim, call Keystone Commercial at 204.995.9696 to discuss what happened.  When you receive your policy, there will also be a phone number provided to you to report a claim; however, it is recommended that you contact Keystone Insurance Agencies first.

Should A Claim Be Made?

There are several factors to consider when deciding whether a claim should be made or not.  These factors include:

  • Deductible and Total Damage amount: If your deductible is $1,000 and the total damage is only $1,500, it may not be worth reporting a claim.

  • Claims Free Discount - For Home Insurance, some insurance companies provide a "Claims Free Discount" of 10-20% of the premium if there have not been any claims in the last 3-5 years.  Putting in a claim would remove that discount for the next 3-5 years.

  • Frequency of Claims: If you have too many claims in within a short period of time, insurance companies may decide not to renew your insurance, restrict coverage or raise deductibles, or increase the premiums.

  • Impact of Closed Claims:  If you choose to open a claim and then choose to close the claim later, there are still expenses that the insurance company has incurred such as the cost of the adjuster who would have investigated and contacted you about the claim.
